If you are like me, you probably reach for a bottle of red wine for Christmas dinner. However, this year consider trying something different. Here are 5 Reasons To Drink White Wine In Southwest Florida For The Holidays and for Wine Wednesday. Spoiler alert. It’s not because the weather along Florida’s gulf coast tends to be warm on Christmas. Although that is something to consider. It’s because of how some white wines compliment the food found on your table.
You probably know people who only drink white wine. And then there are people who shun white and only drink red wine. I’m an equal opportunity wine drinker. I like both and my choices depend not only on what goes best with my food. In addition, it depends on my mood and where I am. For instance, while sitting on a terrace overlooking the water in July, a big syrah doesn’t quite fit the bill. However, a rose made of syrah is perfect.
I recently participated in a virtual tasting and wine seminar with the folks at Bouchaine Vineyards in Napa, California. They are best known for chardonnay and pinot noir. However, this seminar focused on white grapes that are not as common in California but are great food wines. They are aromatic and have layers of flavors that make delicious friends with much of the traditional fare on a holiday table. Don’t be afraid of their names and put aside judgement, what you might have previously thought about some of these grapes.
