These Are 10 Of Florida’s Biggest Phobias
Some of Florida’s biggest phobias are surprising.
Merriam-Webster defines a phobia as an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation. Here in Southwest Florida I would venture to guess there are folks scared of drowning or scared of an alligator or snakes. Those are common phobias we see in our area with the presence of so much water and of course the wildlife.
In a recent study, released by FloridaBet, we can see 10 of Florida’s Biggest Phobias. And while some are definitely unnerving, I wouldn’t have thought they were so widespread across the Sunshine state. In order to complete the study, FloridaBet analyzed Google searches in the state over a 12 month period, to see what phobias were searched for most.
According to their study, over 19 million Americans have a phobia. My phobia is definitely drowning or being buried alive, so I guess you could say my phobia is suffocation. I’m also terrified of sinkholes. No thank you! One of the weirdest phobias I have ever heard of is actually my 12 year daughter’s. She won’t put lotion on when she’s in a room with a closed door for fear that in an emergency she won’t be able to open the door. To each their own, right?!
