Tropical Storm Idalia Monday 5pm Update
The 5pm update on Tropical Storm Idalia shows no real change in the development of the storm. Still looking at a category 3 storm hitting the Cedar Key area of Florida.
Tropical Storm #Idalia Advisory 9: Idalia Nearing Hurricane Strength as it Approaches Western Cuba. Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Dangerous Winds Becoming Increasingly Likely For Portions of Florida. https://t.co/tW4KeGe9uJ

Looking locally here in Southwest Florida, we’re under a Tropical Storm Warning. If this update holds true, we’ll avoid the heaviest part of the storm, but we still we get winds and the possibility of dangerous surge.
I don’t think I need to remind anyone about surge. If something changes in this track and we see evacuation notices – get out. Our Tropical Storm Idalia peak surge forecast in SWFL is currently at 2-4 feet, which can change. The timing of high tide and the effect of a near full moon will factor in, as well. Watch local and National news for your weather making decisions.
Currently, Charlotte County Schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Lee County Schools will be closed on Tuesday as well. FGCU is planning for remote classes on Tuesday. If you have family or friends in an out of town school or university, you can keep track of those closings here.
I’m expecting notices of postponed trash collections from Tropical Storm Idalia.
Will update when this happens.
EDIT: It happened. Charlotte County announced Waste Management will have no collection on Wednesday.
