The Glazer Children’s Museum announced a new exhibit that will feature the world’s largest triceratops. This fossilized dinosaur skeleton was discovered by Paleontologist Walter Stein in 2014. Stein named it “Big John” after the owner of the land he found it on in South Dakota. He definitely lives up to his name at nearly 26 feet long and 10 feet high. About the size of an RV, he holds the Guinness World Record for the largest documented skeleton of a triceratops.
The dinosaur was put up for auction in 2021 and the Pagidipati family bought for almost eight million dollars. They are now lending it to the museum in Tampa.
Sarah Cole is the Glazer Children’s Museum President and CEO. She said in a press release: “What makes dinosaurs such an enduring and universal source of fascination is their ability to bridge the gap between generations. It’s hard to believe that these seemingly mythical creatures roamed our planet long ago. Getting up close to a fossil as remarkable as Big John inspires awe and sparks curiosity about the world around us.“
The new exhibit will open on May 26. Big John will be at the center with tunnels for kids to crawl through, as well as clear domes to look underneath the bones.
This experience will be included with general admission to the museum. You can find more info here
