Florida mask mandate in schools?

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Florida will not enforce a mandatory mask mandate in schools despite the rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant, according to local10.

The decision will ultimately be up to individual school districts but DeSantis
said he opposes any attempt from the federal government to mandate masks among schoolchildren in the coming school year.

“We look forward to this upcoming year [being] a normal year, to be in person and learn like normal kids,” he said. “There’s been talk about potentially people advocating at the federal level, imposing compulsory masks on kids. We’re not doing that in Florida. We need our kids to breathe.”

This has been a topic of discussion again as the COVID-19 Delta variant has shown to be more contagious.

Earlier this week, top Biden health officials held preliminary conversations on revising mask recommendations for vaccinated Americans as the Delta variant spreads through the U.S.
