Lee County Woman Brings Joy to 400 Children This Christmas with Gift Drive
In an impressive display of community spirit, Mama Sonya led a massive holiday gift drive that will make Christmas special for 400 children in Lee County neighborhoods from Fort Myers Beach to Harlem Heights.
Piles of wrapped gifts now fill her home and spill into the parking lot of Buffy’s Paradise salon in Iona, waiting to be delivered to children all over the area. The gigantic pile of gifts is ready to bring smiles to homes in various communities.
“This is who I am, I am a person who gives. This comes from the heart, all for the glory of God. It’s not about me. We just love doing this. We live for this,” Mama Sonya told WINK News.
Since June, Mama Sonya has turned her home into a busy Christmas workshop. Now, helpers are hard at work sorting and delivering gifts to families who need extra help this season.
The effort touches many local neighborhoods, bringing holiday cheer to children who might not otherwise receive gifts. Groups of volunteers work side by side to get the gifts to each area.
This giveaway drive is one of several charitable efforts in Southwest Florida this season, including a collaboration between six local businesses that help children in the Boys & Girls Club.
Drop-off points are spread across the region, with volunteers tracking and organizing all the gifts that arrive. The activity continues to grow strongly.
Volunteers carefully wrap and label each gift before delivery. Both locations are full of gifts waiting for Christmas morning.
Local groups came together to make this possible. The project shows what can be accomplished when neighbors come together during the holidays.
Each year is bigger than the last, bringing Christmas magic into the lives of more children.
