2 Florida Men Tried To Rob A Construction Site During Milton – Got Stuck
2 Florida men from Winter Garden, Florida tired to take advantage of the state of emergency in Polk County as Hurricane Milton approached. They were at a construction site at US 27 and Sand Mine Road (Four Corners) near Davenport loading up on what they thought were easy pickings. With the hurricane approaching, the site was left unguarded in what should have been a classic caper. Should have.
At around 7:21pm on Tuesday evening, a suspicious U-Haul truck was seen on a construction site and reported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Did these guys really rent a U-Haul to go rob a construction site?
When the deputies arrived, they found the U-Haul truck…stuck in the sand. The 2 Florida men were detained: 37-year old Andre Fernandes and 38-year old Daniel Lima De Andrade. I’m sure all the rain we’ve had played a part in this as well, U-Haul trucks aren’t really known for their off road capability. Certainly not in wet sand.
Inside of the truck, deputies found various tools, saw horses, gloves, and construction wood that the 2 Florida men had taken from the site.
The U-Haul was towed away, and the two suspects were hauled away to the Polk County Jail.
The 2 Florida Men Were Off To Jail
Andre and Daniel were both arrested and charged with trespassing on a construction site, possession of burglary tools, and petit theft. Because these crimes occurred during a State of Emergency with the approaching Hurricane Milton, each one of their charges carry enhanced penalties. At least the men didn’t have to look for shelter during the hurricane, they were safe from the storm at the Cross Bar Inn.
