Federal and State Agencies Open Farm Recovery Center in North Fort Myers
“We got some additional information on some of the environmental programs that work for me as a farmer, that helps me move forward and use some of those programs in the future,” Brandon Grendell, a small poultry farmer and food stand owner, told Fox 4 News.
Workers help visitors navigate aid options for destroyed crops, damaged equipment, impacted livestock, and wrecked homes. Eight Florida counties now have these centers, ranging from Hamilton to Polk.
“We believe the American dream doesn’t single out people who live in big cities. It’s something we believe belongs to all Americans no matter where they live,” said Joe Labadie, a USDA Emergency Management Specialist.
FEMA Senior Program Analyst Sabrina Spence explained how the center makes things easier by allowing farmers to handle several needs in one location.
While this event only lasted for the day, local USDA offices remain ready to help. Farmers need to turn in emergency assistance paperwork to the Natural Resource Conservation Service by Dec. 20.
