3 Scammers Busted Stealing Back Mercedes in Collier County
Three scammers from the East Coast roll into Collier County, thinking they’re about to run some slick trick and get away with it. Sorry fellas. Not this time. According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, It all went down when some guy decided to buy a used Mercedes off Facebook Marketplace. You know how it is, you find a good deal, drive down to Miami, and think you’ve got yourself a sweet ride.
But this wasn’t your regular sale. Turns out, the scammers selling the car had a whole setup going on. They gave the buyer fake DMV paperwork and keys, thinking they’d just take the car back after the sale. The buyer heads to the DMV, realizes he’s been scammed, but the drama didn’t stop there. While he was trying to sort it all out at the DMV, these three fools pulled up to his house in Naples to steal the car back!
Scammers Caught:
Luckily, someone was home, saw them trying to break in, and things started to get heated. The trio tried to run but Collier County deputies weren’t about to let them get far. They caught up with them on I-75, stopped the car, and slapped the cuffs on all three crooks. Turns out, the Mercedes had a tracking device on it, and these guys still had the key fob to unlock it.
Now, they’re locked up, and Sheriff Kevin Ramboskthe has one simple message for scammers thinking they can pull off something like this… “My message to out-of-town crooks is clear: Don’t come to Collier County to commit crime because if you do, our deputies will find you and arrest you, and you will be held accountable,”
In other words, don’t bring that nonsense to Collier County. You’ll get caught. Period.
