You name it, and there is a national day to celebrate it. From French fries to friends and everything in between. Today it’s all about the timeless lighthouse. And we hate to  miss out on a celebration. So here are five scenic and iconic Florida sites for National Lighthouse Day. At one time there were 62 lighthouses in Florida. Now, only 30 remain. In Southwest Florida, the most famous is on Sanibel Island. It is still standing following Hurricane Ian, although it did sustain damage

The lighthouse at the southeast tip of the island is the most photographed spot on Sanibel. It was quite an emotional morning when its light was restored following Ian. That happened five months to the day that storm hit and was a symbol of hope in many ways. The beach and surrounding park reopened the beginning of June.

National Lighthouse Day

Florida has some 1,350 miles of coastline and is home to some amazing lighthouses. These structures have guided mariners and explorers for centuries, all around the world. If their beacons could only talk. Lighthouses are points of interests on maps worldwide and people plan trips around visiting them. Especially in places like Maine where there are more than sixty in a small radius. They’re a picturesque highlight of any road trip through that state.

While it’s fun to see these by land, it can be even better by sea. If you don’t have a boat, check out Boatsetter. It’s a leading nationwide company offering boat rentals. If you are a lighthouse buff,  and you have more summer travel ahead, perhaps a boat rental and tour of a coastline would be a fun adventure.
