Willy Chirino is celebrating 50 years in the music business and is recognized around the world as the creator of the Miami Sound, a fusion of Cuban music, rock, jazz, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms. Born in Consolación del Sur in Cuba, Chirino left Cuba and came to the United States through Operation Pedro Pan, along with thousands of Cuban children. He has written several songs that are emblematic for the Cuban people, but none more than “Nuestro Día (Ya Viene Llegando)”, which has become a second national anthem for his compatriots on and off the captive island.

During his career, Chirino has released more than 35 albums and is the composer of more than 100 songs that have been recorded by more than 60 artists. In 2006 he won a GRAMMY Award for Best Salsa/Merengue Album for “Son del Alma” and was nominated in 2007 for a Latin GRAMMY® for Best Salsa Album for “35o Aniversario-En Vivo”, he has won records of platinum for “Oxígeno” and “Acuarela del Caribe,” and gold for “Zarabanda,” “South Beach,” “Asere,” and “Afro-disiac.” Chirino has produced records for Rocío Jurado, Raphael, Oscar D’León, Celia Cruz, Magneto and dozens of international artists. He launched his own music label, Latinum Music, in 1997 after signing with CBS and later with Sony Music.

Tito Puente, Jr. carries his father with him, imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. It’s in his looks, his joy and his music. Crowds drawn to a place by the father are returning to see the son and partake once more in the celebration of high voltage that takes place on the stage. Puente, Jr. has become an audience favorite at casinos, performing arts centers, symphony halls, and jazz festivals around the world. His CD, “In My Father’s Shoes” features classic Puente titles and was made into a BET Jazz TV special of the same name. Puente, Jr.’s CD “Got Mambo?” it’s a mix of old and new as he takes a musical turn towards powerful new music that you can truly call your own. Guest artists Bobby Cruz and Hansel & Raul help make this a coming-of-age outreach project for Puente, Jr.
