If you're looking for a little sweetie to love, adoption fees have been lowered at Lee County Domestic Animal Services for Valentine's Day.
If you're feeling a little lonely and are dreading the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, you can change all that. And you can do that by adopting a pet right here in Fort Myers. Adopting my little guy Rocket was the best thing I ever did. He was found on the streets of Houston after Hurricane Harvey and was rescued by a group in Minnesota. I was living in Fargo, ND at the time. A friend of mine knew the family fostering him and knew he'd be perfect for me. He was just a little guy, maybe 4 or 5 months old. It was love at first sight and I've had him now for just over 6 years. I feel like rescue animals have a little extra love for you because they know you saved their life.
The shelters are so full right now, not only in Fort Myers, but all over. If you're in a position to adopt a pet, it's a win-win for you and them!
Adoption Fees Lowered At Lee County Domestic Animal Services For Valentine's Day
To help you find a valentine this year, Lee County Domestic Animal Services has lowered their adoption fees to just $14. According to a press release, it's not only on Valentine's Day, it's for the entire month of February. And it's for any animal in the shelter- dogs, cats, bunnies. I actually rescued a guinea pig last month and took it to Lee County DAS, so there may even be guinea pigs there! You can find a list of all adoptable pets here or you can stop in 10:30am-3:30pm Monday-Saturday.
You do have to fill out an adoption application that can be done here or at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers, and approved. The adoption fee includes everything from sterilization, vaccinations, microchip and more.
6 Florida Tours & Theme Parks With A Kennel For Your Dog
Going on a family vacation is something we look forward to for many months leading up to. Lots of families here in Southwest Florida look forward to spending time away at one of the many theme parks we have here in the Sunshine State.
Tampa is only a couple of hours away from us in Fort Myers and Orlando just about an hour longer. From Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Disney World and Sea World, the choices are endless.
There is however one downside to these fun family vacations or trips. What do you do with your furry friends? Sure, there are plenty of pet friendly hotels across the state, but what will they do all day? Most times when visiting theme parks you're there for the majority of the day. Your pup will get hungry and restless and have to go potty long before your day at the park is done.
While it would be nice to strap a leash on them and take them along, that's just not an option, or very realistic. Imagine all the accidents that could happen with an endless number of pets in the parks?
But, there is another option, according to Go Pet Friendly. Did you know some of the largest and most frequented parks in Florida offer day care? And a couple of these parks will actually allow your pets inside.
Let's take a look at the options you might have for your pets while you enjoy the park with family and have peace of mind knowing your pet is having fun too!
