So what brought about the need for this innovation? Spirit Airlines, mostly. Sure, they can be a very cheap way to fly, but they also look to make up the difference in fees. One such fee is the carry on. You can bring a small personal item, but a carry on bag is $41. And $65 if you do it at the gate. Ouch. Wanna check a bag, it looks like that’ll be another $36. Reports show it’s $46 for a second checked bag and $91 for each bag after that.
