Florida Just Ranked 42nd In The Country On SAT Scores
The SAT is one of the more important tests for students wanting to attend college. Now that the test can be administered digitally, it’s much easier to see how SAT scores vary in each state throughout the nation. As you can tell by the headline, Florida did not do well. Learner’s analysts took a look at SAT data across the nation to find out which states have the highest (and lowest) SAT scores. The national average currently rests at 1050. Florida came in #42 across the nation with a score of 983.
- Wisconsin came in with the highest mean SAT score at 1252 , which is 202 points above the national average.
- West Virginia ranked as the state with the lowest score—112 points below the nation’s average and an average score of 938
The top spots for the highest average SAT scores are:
- Wisconsin – 1252
- Wyoming – 1244
- Kansas – 1238
- Utah – 1233
- Mississippi – 1226
- Minnesota – 1225
- Nebraska – 1222
- Kentucky and South Dakota – 1219 (tied)
- North Dakota – 1212
- Montana – 1206
The states with the lowest SAT scores are:
- West Virginia – 938
- Oklahoma – 951
- Delaware – 968
- Rhode Island – 971
- New Mexico – 976
- Illinois – 981
- Florida – 983
- District of Columbia – 985
- Idaho – 986
- Michigan – 1000
So the Florida SAT scores aren’t good.
Are all Florida schools still doing SAT tests? I know I never took one. I remember doing well on the ACT but I never took the SAT. 983 isn’t very good, but at least we’re not Delaware, right?
Methodology
National and individual state SAT Suite Results for 2022 from the College Board were compiled to find out which states had the highest and lowest SAT scores. Those scores were then compared each state’s mean SAT score with the national average to understand which states had a mean score higher or lower than the national average. For the full list, go here.
