Dine With These Wines For Easter
It’s Wine Wednesday and also a holiday week. To help you out in the hosting department, dine with these wines for Easter. Easter Sunday is a time where many families and friends gather to celebrate a variety of things. For Christians, it is the resurrection. It is also the end of lent, finally time to indulge again.
If you’re hosting an Easter brunch, lunch or dinner, I have some great ideas in the wine department. Also, if you are attending a gathering and need something to give the host, these ideas work for you too.
Picking the wines
First of all, lets take a look at traditional Easter foods. That often helps when it comes to making decisions on wine. Ham is an Easter staple for many families. It’s salty and can also be a little sweet. The sauces can make a difference in the wine. Mustard is going to be a lot different from an orange or honey glazed. However, in general, ham is a main course that could use a wine that has a good amount of fruit.
Lamb is also popular. A little more fat, sometimes a bit gamey, this meat could use a medium to bigger body red with good acidity. Again, much depends on the spices, glazes and sauces used for this meat. Then there is pork roast. It too can be fatty and benefit from wines higher in acidity but still have a balance of fruit.
Spring vegetables like asparagus, peas, salads and more are great sides that go well with crisp white wines. When looking for good pairings, dine with these wines for Easter. Or something similar. But at the end of the day, drink what you like and enjoy your time with friends and family. Here are a few wines I’ve recently tried that would make great additions to your Easter table.
