HOD HASHARON, ISRAEL – MARCH 11: A waitress serves breakfast for two, including eggs, cheeses, salad, orange juice, coffee and fresh baked bread at the Aroma espresso bar on March 11, 2008 in the central Israeli town of Hod Hasharon. World food prices are soaring in the face of what some analysts are describing as a perfect storm of circumstances; increasing demand from developing economies in Asia, rising fuel prices, severe weather impacting recent harvests and an economic shift to biofuel production. All this leaves the consumer paying more for basic staples such as bread and milk and is likely to have its hardest impact on poorer nations. (Photo by David Silverman/Getty Images)

If you've been down to Fort Myers Beach lately, I'm sure you've noticed the progress they're making on the Margaritaville Resort, and now another branch of the Margaritaville brand is coming to Fort Myers!
When you're driving over the Caloosahatchee on the Edison Bridge, you'll see Lofton's Island which is a small island that's been sitting empty for years. It was purchased last year with the intent of creating a beach atmosphere and there's nothing more beachy than Margaritaville.
NBC2 reports that a Compass by Margaritaville Hotel will be built on land next to Centennial Park and the island will be equipped with cottages, an event/wedding venue and plenty of boat slips. And if you don't have your own boat, there will be an electric ferry to take people from downtown Fort Myers out to the island and back.
The project is currently in the permit stages, but should be complete by late 2024.
Update 4/28:
Margaritaville Resort on Fort Myers Beach says Lofton's Island will not be associated with the Margaritaville brand.
