Un aviso le costó a un residente de Cape Coral 20,000 dólares después que un criminal tomó control completo de la computadora de la víctima.
De acuerdo al reporte del Departamento de la Policía de Cape Coral el residente estaba en su computadora cuando vieron la ventana con el aviso que venía supuestamenete de Microsoft.
El anuncio decía que su computadora tenía un virus y que deberían llamar a la compañía inmediatamente.
El reporte dice que la víctima llamó al número indicado y siguió las instrucciones dadas por la persona en la línea telefónica.
De pronto , la víctima perdió control completo de la computadora y el hacker obtuvo acceso y comenzó a buscar pornografía y la cuenta bancaria de la víctima.
El criminal le dió un último aviso, para que sacaran 20,000 dólares , lo convirtieran en Bitcoin y se lo enviaran , sino tomarían todo lo que la víctima tenía. Dennis Underwood , el CEO de cybersecurity de la compañía CyberCrucible , dijo que los hackers en si no hackearon la computadora de la víctima sino que simplemente instalaron un software y lo hicieron ver como un anuncio que les daba acceso a la computadora de la víctima.
" Ellos se están presentando lo que se llama social engineering exercise ", dijo Underwood.
El hacker tiene que convencer la víctima a que instale el software para tener acceso.
El dijo que la víctima debió haber simplemente desconectado la computadora , en lugar la víctima fué a una ATM de Bitcoin convirtiendo 20,000 a criptomoneda y enviarla a los hackers.
Underwood dijo que Bitcoin se ha convertido en una moneda popular entre los criminales porque es increíblemente difícil de rastrear.
" Le tomaría a una persona con mucho conocimiento en tecnología , inclusive a nivel federal para rastrearlo.
Estas personas tendrá bancos o teléfonos como un telemarketer solamente contestando llamadas para personas quienes han recibido mensajes falsos de ayuda de Microsoft ", dijo Underwood.
La víctima le dijo a la policía que estarán radicando cargos si alguien es encontrado pero Underwood dijo que la probabilidad de que las autoridades usen recursos para encontrar al criminal pudiera ser ninguna.
" Muchas agencias de la ley no tienen los recursos para hacerlo a menos que sea un número grande ", dijo Underwood.
