En Florida, al menos 35 manatíes an muerto a causa de estrés que les a causado las bajas temperaturas. Estas muertes ocurrieron durante los primeros 26 días de Enero. Según FWC, cuando las temperaturas bajan a 68 grados por um tiempo prolongado los manatíes pueden sufrir de estrés por frío y llevarlos a la muerte. Esta cantidad de manatíes muertos es 5 veces mas que las ocurridas en el 2017 en la misma temporada según Bradenton Herald.
