David Allen Turpin y Louise Anna Turpin fueron arrestados por presuntamente mantener a sus hijos en cautiverio en su casa de California. Trece hermanos y hermanas de entre 2 y 29 años de edad supuestamente estaban en cautiverio en su propia casa. Algunos con grilletes y todos parecían estar desnutridos. Los padres fueron arrestados acusados de tortura y de poner en peligro a los hijos.
